Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a Victorian seaside town full of character, and homeowners here want roofers in Saltburn-by-the-Sea who respect that. Our roofing work covers the whole of TS12, from repairs to the slate roofs of the famous jewel streets to new tiled roofs on later estates, flat roofs and fascias. With the North Sea right on the doorstep, we build every roof to cope with salt and wind. We also take on commercial work for shops and guest houses in the town.
On Victorian homes we use natural slate, matching ridge tiles and code lead, with stainless steel nails that stand up to salt air. Newer properties get quality tiles and dry fix systems. We are family run, fully insured and listed with SafeContractor, Checkatrade and Yell. We have carried out more than 900 roof repairs, and every job is fully guaranteed with a free, no-obligation quote.

Often visible from the street after high winds. Each gap lets rain reach the felt and battens.
Bubbled wallpaper, peeling paint or brown rings upstairs usually mean water is already getting in.
Ridge, hip and verge mortar breaks down with frost, leaving tiles that can lift in the next storm.
Moss, grit and debris in the gutters send water back under the roof edge and down the walls.
If you can see light through the roof from the loft, rain and cold air can get through too.
Standing water, blisters or splits on a felt flat roof are a sign the covering is near the end of its life.
Saltburn was laid out by Henry Pease in the 1860s, and its grid of Victorian terraces, including the jewel streets such as Ruby, Emerald and Garnet Street, still defines the town. Most of these homes have natural slate roofs, tall chimneys and decorative ridges, and much of the old town is a conservation area. Strong winds off the sea and salt spray corrode nails and lead, causing slipped slates and leaking flashings. Back extensions and dormers often have old felt flat roofs that fail. Newer homes on the edges of Saltburn-by-the-Sea have concrete tiles and face exactly the same coastal weather. We match slates and details so that conservation area repairs blend in with the rest of the street.
The importance of repairing minor roof damage is easy to underestimate. A small leak and the damp patch it leaves can grow into a problem that weakens the structure of your Saltburn-by-the-Sea home and leads to a much bigger repair bill.
We regularly work in and around Saltburn-by-the-Sea, as well as in Marske-by-the-Sea and up the hill at Brotton.

Not usually. Most leaks come from a loose, cracked or slipped tile or slate, failed flashing or a tired valley, and can be repaired on their own. A full re-roof is only needed when the roof system as a whole has failed or the roof is no longer safe. We will tell you honestly which applies to your Saltburn-by-the-Sea home.
Get them replaced as soon as possible, before rain reaches the felt and timbers underneath. Replacing tiles safely is a skilled job, so please do not climb up yourself. Contact your local Saltburn-by-the-Sea team and we will match the tile, fix it properly and check the surrounding roof while we are there.
It depends on the extent of the damage, the age of the roof and the materials it is made from. We survey the roof, show you what we find and explain the options. Where a repair is the sensible choice we will repair it. Sometimes a full replacement is the only lasting solution, and we will explain why.
Leaks are often the first sign. Check your Saltburn-by-the-Sea roof and gutters twice a year for cracked, slipped or missing tiles, loose ridge tiles and a build-up of grit in the gutters. Indoors, look for damp patches, bubbled or peeling wallpaper, cracked paint or stained plasterboard. The longer a problem is left, the more it costs to put right.
Only in very exceptional circumstances, such as a roof that is structurally unsafe. In almost every case you can stay in your Saltburn-by-the-Sea home while we work.
Costs in Saltburn-by-the-Sea depend on whether you have a Victorian slate roof or a modern tiled one, the number of chimneys and dormers, and how much scaffolding the street needs. Natural slate in a conservation area costs more. By way of example, re-roofing a typical semi-detached property with clay tiles could cost anything between £3,500 and £5,500.
