Looking for reliable roofers in Gainford? Done Right Roofing Services Ltd is a family run roofing company working right along the Tees valley between Darlington and Barnard Castle. We fix leaks, replace worn slates and tiles, renew flat roofs and build new roofs for homes in Gainford DL2 and the surrounding farmland. From houses facing the village green to outlying farm buildings, we treat every property with the care a village this old deserves.
We use natural slate, clay tiles and quality underlays rather than cheap substitutes, because a roof here has to cope with damp river air and hard winters. Every job comes with full public liability insurance and a full guarantee on the work. We start with a free, no-obligation survey, explain exactly what we found and give you a fixed written price before anything begins.

Slate has a very long life because it shrugs off UV and water and is rarely affected by changes in climate. Individual slates that crack, slip or break can be replaced quickly and cheaply.

Often visible from the street after high winds. Each gap lets rain reach the felt and battens.
Bubbled wallpaper, peeling paint or brown rings upstairs usually mean water is already getting in.
Ridge, hip and verge mortar breaks down with frost, leaving tiles that can lift in the next storm.
Moss, grit and debris in the gutters send water back under the roof edge and down the walls.
If you can see light through the roof from the loft, rain and cold air can get through too.
Standing water, blisters or splits on a felt flat roof are a sign the covering is near the end of its life.
Gainford is one of the oldest villages in County Durham, built around a broad green above the River Tees with St Mary's Church close to the water. Much of the centre is a conservation area, with Georgian and earlier stone houses roofed in Welsh slate and, on some older buildings, heavy stone slates. These roofs often fail at the ridges, valleys and chimney flashings long before the slates themselves, and lime mortar pointing on stacks wears away in the wet. Being low by the river, damp lingers, so moss and blocked gutters are common. Repairs on listed buildings or within the conservation area need matching materials, and we source reclaimed or new natural slate to keep the look right. Newer homes on the village edges have concrete tiles that suffer from tired ridge bedding.
The importance of repairing minor roof damage is easy to underestimate. A small leak and the damp patch it leaves can grow into a problem that weakens the structure of your Gainford home and leads to a much bigger repair bill.
We regularly work in and around Gainford, including Winston and Headlam, so we know the local roofs and lanes well.
We also cover these nearby areas with the same team and the same guarantees.

Not usually. Most leaks come from a loose, cracked or slipped tile or slate, failed flashing or a tired valley, and can be repaired on their own. A full re-roof is only needed when the roof system as a whole has failed or the roof is no longer safe. We will tell you honestly which applies to your Gainford home.
Get them replaced as soon as possible, before rain reaches the felt and timbers underneath. Replacing tiles safely is a skilled job, so please do not climb up yourself. Contact your local Gainford team and we will match the tile, fix it properly and check the surrounding roof while we are there.
It depends on the extent of the damage, the age of the roof and the materials it is made from. We survey the roof, show you what we find and explain the options. Where a repair is the sensible choice we will repair it. Sometimes a full replacement is the only lasting solution, and we will explain why.
Leaks are often the first sign. Check your Gainford roof and gutters twice a year for cracked, slipped or missing tiles, loose ridge tiles and a build-up of grit in the gutters. Indoors, look for damp patches, bubbled or peeling wallpaper, cracked paint or stained plasterboard. The longer a problem is left, the more it costs to put right.
Only in very exceptional circumstances, such as a roof that is structurally unsafe. In almost every case you can stay in your Gainford home while we work.
In Gainford the price depends on the roof covering, the pitch, access around the property and whether conservation rules call for natural slate or stone. As a guide, re-roofing a typical semi-detached property with clay tiles could cost anything between £3,500 and £5,500, while larger stone houses with slate will cost more. We always start with a free site survey and then give you a fixed written quote. Call 01325 589104 to book yours.
