Free roof surveyA small fault caught early is a small bill. Call us if you spot any of these.
Often visible from the street after high winds. Each gap lets rain reach the felt and battens.
Bubbled wallpaper, peeling paint or brown rings upstairs usually mean water is already getting in.
Ridge, hip and verge mortar breaks down with frost, leaving tiles that can lift in the next storm.
Moss, grit and debris in the gutters send water back under the roof edge and down the walls.
If you can see light through the roof from the loft, rain and cold air can get through too.
Standing water, blisters or splits on a felt flat roof are a sign the covering is near the end of its life.
Hurworth-on-Tees stretches along a bend of the river opposite Croft-on-Tees, with a long main street of Georgian and Victorian houses, a village green and All Saints Church. Much of the village is a conservation area, and the older properties carry Welsh slate and clay pantile roofs with tall chimneys, dormers and lead valleys that all need careful upkeep. Repairs here must respect the look of the street, so we use matching natural slate or pantiles. Being right beside the Tees, the village stays damp for much of the year, which encourages moss, blocks gutters and rots timber fascias. Rockliffe Hall sits on the edge of the village, and behind the main street there are newer estates where concrete tiled roofs and felt flat roofs on extensions are now ready for renewal.
The importance of repairing minor roof damage is easy to underestimate. A small leak and the damp patch it leaves can grow into a problem that weakens the structure of your Hurworth-on-Tees home and leads to a much bigger repair bill.
We regularly work in and around Hurworth-on-Tees, including Neasham and Croft-on-Tees just across the river from the village.
We also cover these nearby areas with the same team and the same guarantees.

Not usually. Most leaks come from a loose, cracked or slipped tile or slate, failed flashing or a tired valley, and can be repaired on their own. A full re-roof is only needed when the roof system as a whole has failed or the roof is no longer safe. We will tell you honestly which applies to your Hurworth-on-Tees home.
Get them replaced as soon as possible, before rain reaches the felt and timbers underneath. Replacing tiles safely is a skilled job, so please do not climb up yourself. Contact your local Hurworth-on-Tees team and we will match the tile, fix it properly and check the surrounding roof while we are there.
It depends on the extent of the damage, the age of the roof and the materials it is made from. We survey the roof, show you what we find and explain the options. Where a repair is the sensible choice we will repair it. Sometimes a full replacement is the only lasting solution, and we will explain why.
Leaks are often the first sign. Check your Hurworth-on-Tees roof and gutters twice a year for cracked, slipped or missing tiles, loose ridge tiles and a build-up of grit in the gutters. Indoors, look for damp patches, bubbled or peeling wallpaper, cracked paint or stained plasterboard. The longer a problem is left, the more it costs to put right.
Only in very exceptional circumstances, such as a roof that is structurally unsafe. In almost every case you can stay in your Hurworth-on-Tees home while we work.
The cost in Hurworth-on-Tees varies between a modern family home and a Georgian property on the main street, where natural slate, leadwork and conservation requirements add to the price. Size, pitch and scaffolding also matter. Re-roofing a typical semi-detached property with clay tiles could cost anything between £3,500 and £5,500. We will survey your roof free of charge and give you a fixed written quote. Call 01325 589104.
